Newton Toll

Imagination has played a major role in the creation of Moray MRG’s Newton Toll layout. Based on a fictional small town in the north east of Scotland it is situated at the end of a long branch off the former Caledonian line from Perth to Aberdeen. Although nominally in LNER territory the line became LMS controlled at the grouping and consequently features a mixture of stock from both companies, running alongside that of later BR origin.

A four-wheel railbus arrives at Newton Toll. The upper quadrant signals and the ‘dolly’ in this view are especially noteworthy—the layout features working signals with full interlocking.

British Rail built Type 2  D5011 (Class 24) hauls a rake of West Highland line tourist stock towards Newton Toll station. The conifer trees are typical of the scenery in this part of Scotland.

A busy late 1950s station scene is captured here. The Class 24 has just arrived with its train of holidaymakers, while the railbus prepares to depart on a local service.
