Forthside
Like Almond Bridge, Forthside is a large 00-gauge ‘tail chaser’ layout and while the name and location are fictitious they were chosen to indicate the local area served by its creators, Stirling and Clackmannan District MRC. It was conceived with the prime purpose of demonstrating the changes that have taken place on Britain’s railways over the later decades of the 20th century.
Great emphasis has been placed on portraying the redevelopment of freight services and the modern scene in Scotland ‘warts and all’. Here a Virgin ‘Thunderbird’ rests between duties in a siding near the premises of a busy plant hire company.
The art of large scale modelling is well demonstrated in this re-creation of an ‘up market’ housing development—note the Porsche 911 in the car park!
A Virgin Cross Country service, with HST power car 43155 leading, awaits the ‘off’ as passengers board at Forthside station. Note the mesh fencing.
