Ashbourne Midland

This EM Gauge layout was built over a ten-year period and is owned by modellers  David Lenton, Tony Franc and Mark Ratcliffe (the Linton MRC). It was featured in the first issue of Trains On-line and has made many appearance on the exhibition circuit since first photographed. Set in the 1950s it is based on the notion that the Midland Railway extended the Wirksworth branch into Ashbourne. The track is hand built and all of the buildings and scenery are of an exceptionally high standard.

The goods shed and its associated structures sit midway along the layout and help extend the active viewing area along its length.

This view is dominated by the Midland Railway signal box, but there is a series of small cameo scenes dotted around the area which add to the overall success of the section.

An ex-LMS 4F sporting BR livery simmers in the platform before resuming its shunting activities in the goods yard. On the platform a varied collection of passengers await the next departure, while a group of porters struggle to move a heavy chest on a trolley.
